Saving a child's life with a qualitative process

A medical team from the Department of Interventional Radiology and Vascular Surgery at King Abdullah University Hospital, headed by Prof. Dr. Muwaffaq Al-Hais, managed to save the life of an 11-year-old child with a specific operation, represented by his fall on a sharp tool (knife) that led to its opening between the internal carotid artery and the abdominal vein Esotropia in the neck.

Professor Al-Hais said that medical examinations, sonography, x-rays, clinical examination and arterial catheterization showed the existence of an 8 mm opening between the carotid artery and the occipital vein.

He added, that the medical team was able to place a 6 mm stent cylinder in the carotid artery, which led to the stopping and closing of this opening, as the operation consisted of making a small 4 mm incision in the upper right thigh and inserting wires and brays through it into the inside of the neck.

And he indicated that after following up the patient during three months and nine months, it was found that the opening is 100% closed and the child is in good condition, indicating that this case is considered one of the complex and advanced operations that are carried out in advanced centers in the world.

He said that this case was published in the American Journal of Rare Cases, and it is classified from the role (Q2 / SCOPUS), and it was published in the name of Prof. Dr. Muwaffaq Al-Hais, Dr. Qusay Al-Jarrah and Prof. Dr. Hussein Al-Hais.

For his part, the Director General of the Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazou, expressed his pride in the successes achieved by the hospital's medical staff and its optimal handling of the most difficult disease cases using the latest medical devices.
