The Department of Special Surgery / Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Abdullah University Hospital was able to perform a qualitative operation on a 40-year-old patient who was suffering from recurrent temporomandibular joint dislocation, severe calcifications on both sides, and repeated joint dislocation during movement.

The operation was performed by a medical team under the supervision of a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery Dr. Tayseer Al-Khatib, where the operation lasted (4) hours. The team managed to implant an artificial temporal joint in both sides after fracturing and removing the calcified and eroded temporal joint. Erosion of the temporal joint and severe calcifications surrounding the joint head, which leads to frequent dislocations and pain in the joint area, ear and neck.

Dr. Al-Khatib pointed out that the patient’s suffering was the inability to open the mouth permanently and the great difficulty in chewing and sleep disturbances due to pain in the temporal joint on both sides indicating that these operations are usually performed by a team of surgeons specializing in specialized centers such as this distinguished university center equipped with the latest devices and which Significant progress.

Al-Khatib stressed that such major and delicate operations can only be performed with the presence of qualified cadres and a hospital equipped with the latest types of medical devices and equipment, appreciating the role of the medical staff who participated in the operation and the patient showed great satisfaction after the operation was performed and is currently symmetric for recovery.
